The SUSTAIN project has been selected for funding within the FISA2024 call. The SUSTAIN (SUbstrate and Systems of Trays for Agricultural INnovation) project develops 3D-printed, recyclable substrate-tray systems to boost efficiency and sustainability in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). By replacing unsustainable materials like peat moss, SUSTAIN aims to increase yields by 10–15% while reducing environmental impact.
The project unites expertise in design of advanced materials (Simona Perotto, PI of the project, PoliMI), plant science (Giacomo Cocetta, Roberto Oberti, Fulvia Tambone, UniMI), and vertical farming innovation (Agricola Moderna S.r.l.).
