On the justification of Koiter’s model for linearly elastic shells confined in a half-space. Theory and Numerical Analysis.

In this talk, we will review some recent results on the modelling, analysis and numerical analysis of Koiter’s model for linearly elastic shells in the case where the shell under consideration is constrained to remain confined in a prescribed half-space. To begin with, we will see how to recover the constrained Koiter’s model starting from the classical three-dimensional equations of linearized elasticity in the case where the shell under consideration is an elliptic membrane or a flexural shell.
