Abstract:
Numerical simulations of the flow around a multi-hull racing yacht

Description:
The main objective of the research activity is the setup of an accurate and efficient numerical procedure to simulate free-surface flows around multi-hull racing yacht. The sailing regimes to be considered when modelling multi-hull yacht include the planning condition. In a first phase, a dedicated validation of the Volume of Fluid (VOF) model for this regime is carried on. Moreover, a complete characterization of the hull performances will requires to explore a large range of sailing attitudes. In order to reduce the total simulation time, a mesh motion procedure is defined so that different sailing attitudes can be analysed within the same simulation.
